Happy Winter Solstice everyone!
From Yalda to Midwinter I hope no matter what you celebrate your night is full of light ☀️
Happy Yule!
What are y’all doing for Yule? This will be my first one and I’ve been lacking energy this year so I’ll just be making cookies, hanging out with family, and wearing Yule colors, not to mention making an offering for Loki.
Right on!
How are you celebrating?
Blessed yule and happy solstice!
Today is the first day of summer in the Northern Hemisphere -- the solstice! People located in the Northern Hemisphere will have the longest day of the year today, and people located in the Southern Hemisphere will have the shortest day of the year.
The angle between the Earth’s orbit and the axis of its rotation creates our seasons, tilting each hemisphere toward the Sun during summer in that half of the Earth. This is summer in the Northern Hemisphere, and winter in the Southern Hemisphere. The other half of the year, the Northern Hemisphere is tilted away from the Sun, creating winter in the north and summer in the south.
Solstices happen twice per year, at the points in Earth’s orbit where this tilt is most pronounced.
These days are the longest (in the summer hemisphere) and shortest (in the winter hemisphere) of the year, and mark the change of seasons to summer and winter, respectively.

Today at 1:21 in the morning, we welcomed the winter solstice, marking the longest night of the year. As the Earth tilts its furthest from the Sun in the Northern Hemisphere, we are reminded of the beauty and mystery of our cosmos.
This celestial event has been celebrated across cultures for centuries, symbolizing renewal and the gradual return of light. As we gaze up at the starry sky tonight, let's embrace the magic of the universe and allow the festive spirit to illuminate our hearts, just like the twinkling lights above.
Wishing you all a joyful winter season filled with wonder and warmth!
Today’s the winter solstice! (Or summer solstice for those in the southern hemisphere.)
It’s a little weird to talk about love being the reason for the season when so many of us are surrounded by not-love. Especially for those of us in the US (but soon perhaps, elsewhere too, regretfully), we have been pummeled and badgered by the results of a brutal election – not brutal physically, not brutal with street riots (I don’t think), but brutal in the promise of a government that…

Gather your supplies: Small amount of hollyberry oil Small amount of mistletoe herb Clean, small piece of white paper (parchment if you have it) Red candle
Ritual: Write a single word in red ink that represents what quality in yourself you would like to enhance with the dawning of the Yule Sun. Sprinkle the mistletoe herb into the center of the paper. Add three drops of the hollyberry oil on top of the mistletoe. Twist the paper closed with the mistletoe and hollyberry Oil inside. Light the red candle. From the flame of the candle, light the paper package on fire. As it burns envision, your wish fulfilled. The spell is done.
↢ Back to Yule - Winter Solstice
Happy Longest Night!
Úgy döntöttem, hogy az ünnepek közeledtével újranézem a Mahoutsukai no Yome (The Ancient Magus' Bride) című animét.
- hát, igaznak bizonyult, hiszen ősszel is alakítottam...
Pl. Trump megválasztása és intézkedései/ötletei, Ukrajna-Oroszország fordulatok, ki-be szálló külhatalmak, új fegyverek; Izrael-HAMASZ, Irán; forradalom Szíriában, 3. VH-s készülődések EU szerte; magyar politika(xd)... lehetne sorolni hosszasan.
Továbbra is terv a hasznos szokások beiktatása, haszontalanok kivezetése, ős nemezisem, a halogatás legyőzése. Na meg hát a magány... meh!!! Kegyetlen sok gondolat megy át rajtam minden nap, csepp kis foszlány a hajnali 1-es órán túlhaladva...
Funfact: Ma volt - 2024.12.21. - az év legrövidebb nappalja (Téli Napforduló). Innentől kezdve ismét hosszabbodik a napos idő! Kezdődik a Yule/Jul ünnepe is, bárkit is érintsen!
Happy Solstice all you prog rock weirdos!
I'm glad this design was approved in time for today. It's the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year. Candles have for obvious reasons been associated with this day in many traditions throughout history. They're also associated with mourning and vigil. As we celebrate our various winter traditions, let's remember the millions of people in Gaza now facing the darkest day of the year without light (or food, water and shelter). As you light your candles let them serve also as vigil for those we have lost and the horrors the living still face. Around the candle I placed poppies, olives and an orange, all symbols of Palestine, along with a scrap of paper with the Arabic name (فلسطين).
As usual, ALL PROCEEDS from this design are for my Palestinian best friend, to help his girlfriend afford to join him safely in America and to help his friends and family in Palestine and around the rest of the Levant who are being hurt directly and/or financially by the attacks on Gaza, the increasing Israeli raids in the West Bank and the collateral damage in surrounding countries. The West Bank violence has been hitting his family particularly hard.
You can find this design here. All designs found here (Redbubble will show you a random product, click on each to see more product options). I try to make stuff in a wide variety of styles so there's something for everyone.
Thank you to everyone who has helped out so far.
Happy Winter Solstice everyone! A day late...I was too busy watching our absolute favorite Doctor Who episode of all time yesterday with my husband in honor of the solstice, it's our yearly tradition. So many great lines, I could just recite the whole episode 😍 "Well done everyone, we're halfway out of the dark."

Original artwork about Jack Frost, this one isn't a fan art although his design is based on the Rankin Bass one, the last one is only diferente because of the silver tiara.
This iteration of Jack Frost was created for an original story i'm planning. He is a winter general in this universe.
I just posted today because of Winter Solstice.
If you want to draw this iteration of him, ask permision
Winter Solstice special, so i made Jack Frost from Rankin Bass fanarts, the one with darker hair was based on the 2D animated iterion, while the light hair was based on the Stop Motion movie from 1979. I couldn't chose which one was better.
Going by the old Julian calendar, December 13 was the darkest night of the year — the eve of the winter solstice. This, however, changed after the calendar reformation in 1753, when the Gregorian calendar was put into use in Sweden, and the winter solstice shifted to December 21. But the folk tradition still stood — the night before the 13th was still popularly known as the darkest night, and therefore also the most dangerous, for the darkness allowed evil entities to thrive longer than any other night. This, in turn, has led to a number of traditions, but the most important aspect has always been the one of light and feasting. To keep the evil away, it was important to stay awake and to stay indoors with lights.
But to be able to stay awake a whole night, one must eat. Tradition decreed that almost all preparations for jól (the midwinter celebration) should also be completed by the 13th, including the slaughter of the festive pig, meaning there was fresh food prepared already and the long night served as a good reason to get an early start on the seasonal feasting. Sometimes, the teenagers and young adults would walk from neighbor to neighbor, singing songs in exchange for food and drink, protected with light. Sometimes they would dress up, and sometimes they would do some pranks to scare people.
Today, the tradition is still standing: to lussa is to dress up as Lucia and walk to neighbors or family members with song and cakes. However, the act of lussa was originally to stay awake during the night between the 12th and 13th and was called Lussevaka (Lusse watch). Lucia can still be equally called Lussefirande (Lusse celebration) today.
But why Lussa? Lussi, otherwise known as Lussekäringen (the Lussi witch) or Lussegubben (Lussi man), was an evil entity. She often took the form of a woman who came riding through the skies with her companions called lussifreda. She was one of the evil spirits who would lurk around in the night and take naughty children away through the chimneys, or punish those who had not completed their jól preparation.
And it is due to this, in the dark of the longest night with a despair for light, with evil all around, that the myth of a female figure of light arose. During the pre-Christian era, the light was sworn to keep evil away. The tradition of a light-bringing woman may therefore have its foundation in a heathen goddess of light who was invoked during this night. The tradition of celebrating light in this manner through Lussevaka has stayed on in different forms ever since.
There is also a theory that Lusse is Freya, hence the traditional bread called “lusse cats” would refer to the cats pulling her wagon.
Lusse bread is baked to honor Sunna (the sun) and attract it back when it was at its darkest, today's lusse cats still have the old Sunna symbols (the spirals at the ends).
In the 19th century, a special interest sparked in the Lusse celebration, due to the first wave of nationalism and the search for old folk traditions all around Sweden. Lusse, which was mainly celebrated by men or women dressing up in white with a crown of flowers, holding candlesticks and walking around the farm with food while singing in the morning, gave the foundation to the modern Lucia.
