Rant about my overconsuption with nail polish below. Read if you dare lol
The struggle of having so much of one thing you love the the point of it overwhelming you to the point of not wanting it anymore is such a bitch. I always get it with my massive nail polish collection. This only started with me becoming a fan of simply nailogical back in middle school. I became such a fan that me and my mom bought many polishes for myself, and then in recent years, she started to buy nail polish for herself too. My collection is so large that it's in or near the hundreds. It's all on these racks my mom bought (she had to buy a second to fit all the polish, and still I have some in extra bins). But now all I can see is the overwhelming amount of nail polish that I own, some drug store/ walmart brand, and some that are expensive, like Holo Taco. I've gotten so much nail polish over the years, some as holiday gifts and others just from passing by them in the store. I had a problem with buying, but now I have a problem with being unable to get rid of it. When I try to paint my nails, the self-doubt of if I'll hate it later latches onto me like a bloodsucking leech. I wish I could get rid of it like old clothes I don't wear but my mom won't let me. I know when I move out, I'm not taking all these nail polishes with me, I just can't. It's all too much, and I execute my solution.
Update #2!!
The hand cream is finally finished up, and I had finished the mini perfumes about a week or so back (forgot to document that, whoops)
So far the only things left over from the original plan are the lip balm and the seemingly never-ending aloe vera gel (I swear it used to get used up so quickly before, idk what happened)
And that cleanser is still very much there, tho I can't use it every day (it's too drying and I only use it if I feel like my skin is very oily.
I really like documenting this stuff, it makes me take this more seriously and really helps me realise how much I consume compared to how much I actually need in a set period of time.
The only thing that I worry about is, how am I going to avoid letting it get out of hand again? I'm nowhere near using up everything I've accumulated, and I'm scared I'm going to break and buy some stuff in a moment of weakness (why do lip products all look so good?!?!π)
I've been making a very specific list of things that I want for occasions like my birthday, diwali etc, cuz I know my family will want to buy me stuff that I don't necessarily need, like many new clothes.
Though I can't very well tell all my relatives that I don't want as many things as they'd get me, I can definitely tell my parents and sister, so that I can make sure they can get me gifts like a muffin tray that I've wanted for a long while, and not large amounts of clothes or things I would be too picky to ever use.
I will add, I do love receiving gifts, clothes and other things, I just don't want to keep collecting things and I'd much rather be able to choose a few articles of clothing myself than have twice as many without really loving some.
I have nowhere else to document this so here we go:
Gonna do a no-buy for makeup, skin and body care products because I tend to hoard and stock up without realising π and I get gifted makeup that I haven't used up.
I've been meaning to go through things but with college being college I haven't actually done much. And now that it's a new year, I'm making it a mission of mine.
So this is going to be my formal attempt at using up what I have properly for about two months minimum (I might need to buy some necessary products like sunscreen by then)
Goal: use up as much of the half used things I've got.
The stuff I'm going to tackle first (and document) are:
β’ a few mini perfumes that I got as a gift (very small, and the smell doesn't last so they'll be the first to go lol)
β’ a small hand cream thats half used
β’my old b&bw rose lotion (only about a third left in it so it shouldn't be hard)
β’a lipbalm (I have a lipbalm addiction and have collected wayyyy too many so I have to stick to one and finish itπ) I'm going with a Nivea lip balm
β’ an almost empty tub of aloe vera gel (I use it pretty regularly but I need to make sure I use it,cuz I already got a replacement π)
I've technically got much more to tackle but these are what I'm going to document for now πͺπ» I'll update this at the end of the month and whenever I finish one of the products on the list!!
An update!
I finished up the lotion bottle (finally)
And I've used up two out of the five mini perfumes (no surprises there, they're tiny, half used and don't last long at all)
Replacing it on my list of things to use up is a half used facial cleanser for oily skin that my mom got for free and gave to me to use.
Wish me luck! π
