Another random ship to add to the list, Yamato/Nami. Currently stuck in my brain so I had to draw it
I love them and I wish they had their own moment together! also, Hello One Piece fandom !! I'm looking for op friends I can talk to :DD
Thereâs a lot of discussion on Yamatoâs gender. And the one take I see particularly often when itâs brought up, is about how Kaido âforcedâ Yamato to be a man.
So, I wanted to explore this train of thought. And explain why this just isnât true.
Within the canon of the text, these are the only times Yamato has been called female, daughter, or princess.
(Chapter 984, pg. 17)
The first time is right after Yamato is properly introduced to the audience, and is following a panel where Luffy questions his gender.
(Chapter 984, pg. 17)
Here, Yamato explicitly says that he chose to be a man, like Oden was.
So it appears that the introduction Oda box was more to indicate Yamatoâs birth sex, to confirm to the audience that yes, he was born a woman. But Yamato himself is confirming that while he was born female, he is choosing to identify himself as a man, due to how Oden inspired him.
After this moment, Luffy affirms Yamatoâs gender by calling him by the nickname âYama-oâ, which is what he calls Law and Kid by as well.
(the rest under the cut. this is an EXTREMELY long post)

They hang out in canon (delusional)
ONE PIECE SPOILERS
I am not trans so I canât and wonât speak in their behalf, this is me just complaining about the stuff I am seeing around about Yamato.
I really donât understand whatâs so difficult about using Yamatoâs pronouns. He calls himself Kaidoâs son, he used boku to talk about himself, Luffy calls him Yama-o - that literally meas Yama guy. I think thatâs enough to conclud that he *is* and *wants* to be perceived as a man.
But I saw some people arguing that he wants to be *Oden* not a *boy* and his character development is going to be him stopping wanting to be Oden, so stop being a man.
And letâs pretend for a moment that thatâs going to happen, so what? At the moment he sees himself as a man, we should all respect that and use the correct pronouns. Itâs really not that difficult.
If indeed he decides that he is not a man at the end of the arc, than we should stop using he/him. Until then, itâs really that hard to call a fictional character by the right pronouns? I donât think it is.
So letâs stop saying ridiculous theories just to try to hide our bigotry. Thanks and sorry for the kinda long post.
