Dive Deep into Creativity: Your Ultimate Tumblr Experience Awaits
Okay, so I used to write short horror/Gothic/scifi stories (which I might post here soon), but anyway, I just thought of a story concept and I need to know if it sounds atleast somewhat interesting.
(A very rough and audhd concept i know needs polishing)
So, the main character is a test tube baby made specifically to be better than regular man through both some light cybernetics and genetic mutation. However, her parents try to raise her normal for a time. She reached young adulthood and was too sheltered that when she goes out into the loud scary world, she's overwhelmed and is having a hard time coping.
Suddenly an alien crashes in front of her/maybe it's just eating her trash, and she thinks it's a wild animal at first only knowing from TV and stories. So when she sees this 8 foot tall fleshy carapace bug humanoid thing she treats it kindly and feeds it. Soon she discovers it can change its form(I definitely wanna make it a visceral and graphic transformation, think animorfs but bloodier) she still can't do human speech but does learn sign language.
It's eventually revealed that The alien (I think I'm gonna call her Mixy) is on the run and hiding from the Mi-go (They are possibly my favourite sci-fi race, and they are public domain!) So now they both have to stay hidden and fight these highly advanced and decently intelligent xenos.
Only for the MC (I can't really think of a name, open to suggestions) to find out that she and her alien love interest arent so different in origin (yes, I had to make it gay! Sue me!)
Well? What do you, someone who totally read this far down, think? Should I pursue it further? Or does it sound too crazy? I'm open to suggestions! 😊
I'm the voice of mother earth, where all horrors are born.

Lovecraftian Horror
👽TYPES OF ALIEN AESTHETICS👽
Greys: black hoodies and skinny jeans, long walks through the suburbs at night, names carved into picnic tables, X-files posters and gifted mix-tapes, gravel scraped knees, the moon behind power lines behind tree branches, black holes, hunger for truth, Kurt Vonnegut paperbacks, computer-screens glowing into disheveled bedrooms.
Flatwoods Monster: crocheted quilts and creature features, summer nights full of otherworldly cicada-song, vinyl records, evening through a window screen, fireflies in mason jars, comic book pages blowing in pre-storm winds, red embroidery thread, valuing truth and justice above looking cool, knowing the names of constellations.
Hovering Orbs of Light: city skylines reflected in water, hasty charcoal landscapes torn out of sketchbooks, posters of nebulas, polaroid photography, stubs of train tickets, Steven Spielberg scripts, impressionist nocturnes, labradorescence, just wants to go hang out at the aquarium, big dreams, strong opinions about YA novels.
Little Green Men: fidgety, spams their friends with memes, unicorn-pattern everything, wants to go on a road trip, patches on backpacks, round iridescent sunglasses, integrates glitter wherever possible, electronic music and fireworks, collections of cactuses, would hate to be considered ordinary, collects crystals and loves scooby-doo.
Lovecraftian Horror: bulky winter coats with turned up collars, thick slate-grey scarves, underground waterfalls, trilobites fossils in sleepy small-town museums, the sound of footsteps in snow, has trouble getting close to people, terrible at small talk, late nights with a long novel, hot chocolate and old lighthouses, the friend that takes spiders outside.
Duck Of Inspiration
Description: An apparently normal duck, occasionally it glows of a very faint yellow light.
Functionality: Give to all the players in a 10ft, that are in good terms with the duck, the possibility to use +1 to +5 inspiration per long rest. A player can use +5 all in one roll, or two players can use +2 and then +3.
BUT
If someone uses the inspiration of the duck they will not be able to use it until the next long rest. If someone uses the inspiration point that the DM gave them and that sums up to more than a +1 inspiration used, they will be unable to use the Duck until the next long rest.
To be in good terms with the duck you need to feed it, play with it, take care of her, NEVER call her “Quack”, “Goose”, “Silly Goose”, “Duck”, “Chicken” or “Bird” and NEVER say to her to shut up or act angrily towards her if she quacks.
If you do one of those things, you roll a d20
15-20: the Duck will look at you angrily, quack loudly while glowing and you will be feeling uneasy for a minute
10-14: the Duck will quack, looking at you seriously while glowing of a faint orange, you’ll be unable to speak for a minute. If you have any inspiration points, you lose 1 of them
5-9: the Duck will quack quietly, looking at you with disdain while glowing orange, you’ll be blinded and mute for a minute. If you have any, you’ll lose 2 inspiration points.
2-4: the Duck looks at you in silence and glows red, you’ll be paralysed for a minute, uneasy for 5 minutes and take 3d4 of psychic damage. You’ll lose all your inspiration points given to you but the DM
1: the Duck eyes turn white, its feathers vibrate while turning of a pitch black, it opens its wings and beak, looking directly into your eyes. The duck glows purple, everything around you seems to tremble like in an earthquake and then you start vomiting blood losing 20 pure damage, you look at the Duck and for a second it seems to have horns and sharpened teeth inside it’s beak, what seems like blood comes down like tears from its eyes. Then everything turns black, and the next thing you realise after opening your eyes, is that you’ve been transformed into a duck (a chicken, if you’ve called her “Chicken”). No other players have seen past the black aura that surrounded the Duck and you while everything happened. Everyone need to roll an Intelligence roll (>5 to succeed) to understand that the Duck polymorphed you into a Duck/Chicken. You lose all your inspiration points and stay polymorphed for 2 hours or until the next rest. You can understand other Ducks while in this form, except The Duck.
Rolling lower than a 12 will make you unable to use the Duck again (don’t say it to your player until it tries to, to make it funnier) because you’ll be in bad terms with the Duck.
Say sorry to the Duck and take care of her and it will accept your apologies and after your next rest you’ll be able to use the Duck again.
Speak with animals will not work (and any other spell that need its target to be an animal) but will give you the faint sensation that you should make this Duck friend and follow you, for your own good.
P.S. Yes, The Duck is an eldritch abomination. If you want it can become a patron, but don’t make it that it’s a Dark creature polymorphed or trapped in the body of a Duck… make it that the Duck is its normal form.
Inspiration: The Duck above… wait I’ve gained inspiration from the duck of inspiration to make the duck of inspiration… it’s Duckception
Saw a post like this with negative outlook so I asked for it to be fixed
Time to expand the footprint a bit! My name is James Kenwood, and I am looking for a place to experiment with self-publishing: flash fiction, novellas, novels, and whatever else tickles my creative fancy. I will be using this blog Grim Acres to share and promote some of my writing. What do I focus on? Very simple: Lovecraftian dread set during World War Two - and sci-fi. Perhaps some sci-fi with tentacles too, since the intersection is already there. Or maybe sci-fi Nazis, although that trope is wearing a bit thin by now (says the one who just made a tentacle joke). Regardless! The Grim Acres will be the place where all this dread and darkness is shared. Feel free to send me a PM if you like what you read here, or have any thoughts to share. PS: you can also find me on Substack, under the same names. I'll post a URL for that once I'm sure tumblr won't shadow-ban me for linking to a "rival"...!
