Mythic Mail Letters From Japan book secrets: 👺Today’s Easter egg (super top secret hidden gem) is this illustrated postcard featuring the Bura-Bura, or haunted paper lantern. The characters that make his eyes and nose are called “henohenomoheji” using Japanese hiragana. It’s a little joke that these characters look like a face when arranged on paper. The eyes are “no”, the nose is “mo”. 🍵 Kumamoto Teahouse 🍡 This teahouse is a fictional place of course, but this is one of my favorite faux polaroids of Japan in my upcoming illustrated novel. When I was a teenager, we had exchange students that stayed with us from time to time. One girl was Kumamoto, Japan. She taught me how to write in traditional calligraphy. I was not very good. But my fondest memory of her is of the postcards of the Kumamoto area that she brought as a gift. #MarchMeetTheMaker 💜 WORK IN PROGRESS 📚I always have 5 million “works in progress”, but my biggest project right now is my Mythic Mail book. Mythic Mail is a monthly snail mail adventure in letter form that i have an incredible amount of fun creating. 📚 I have loved creating it so much so that I wanted to take the adventure to Japan. Japan has such a rich monster culture. There are tons of creatures and tales to explore! It was hard to choose just a handful to explore. 📚 I have almost half of the main illustrations finished. Then I will move onto the writing and spot illustrations. Here I have my main sketches remaining and if you scroll, my book cover mockup. 📚 I am hoping to publish and release my Mythic Mail book sometime in late summer 2021.
