this is a rant about how they completely fucked up chishiya’s character

major spoilers for season 2 and the manga

first of all, i’m not entirely upset about how they put chishiya in the jack of hearts game even though no main character’s were supposed to be in there. it makes sense that the writers would do that because having a game consist of all new characters, even though they are interesting characters, it may not have come across very well.

it was fun to see how chishiya’s brain worked for that game and i loved that it gave him a lot more screen time, which was desperately needed.

now, i’ve always been a little peeved about how they made chishiya more in tune with his emotions, in the manga he is apathetic and he has no positive feelings towards any of the characters. in the show he was caring towards kuina and kuina even asked about him numerous times, but in the manga she very much disliked him because of him selfish and manipulative ways.

it would have been fine if that was the only thing they changed about his character, but they completely made up a backstory for him, it made me so angry that they left out the most important part of him.

his original backstory started off with showing the lack of parental love that he grew up with and that he never understood the human heart and that he had no plans to do so. his father worked in the medical field which is why chishiya became A MEDICAL STUDENT, not an actual doctor or whatever the fuck they made him in the show. manga chishiya was working in the hospital on what i assume was an internship, and the best scene was when a dying old man gave him a letter to give to a family member and chishiya said that he would but when chishiya left the room he threw the letter away because he doesn’t care for other people.

the backstory change was completely unnecessary and the new one didn’t really add anything of value. i assume they did it because it made him relate to kuzuryu which resulted in a change of heart in chishiya, but in the manga chishiya still had a change in heart with his original backstory.

also they didn’t make him smile that big’ol smile he had when he got shot. the only reason that chishiya went to talk to arisu was because the words of kuzuryu made him rethink himself and he actually wanted to talk to someone for a change.

i am really happy that they didn’t change the confrontation between him, arisu, and niragi, i’m also glad that they still put chishiya and niragi in the same hosptial room because that shit’s hilarious.

over all i did enjoy the season and i understand that following the manga exactly is boring. in fact i enjoyed some of the switch ups that did happen, but i just don’t understand why they felt the need to change the most important aspects of chishiya.

Hoping praying blood sacrificing for a proper full AIB anime adaptation. Will it ever happen most unlikely. Is there hope? Always!

he's apathetic, not unbothered. things still bother him but he just cant bring himself to care enough for an appropriate reaction. and thats on him being neglected for his entire life and never learning how to feel/deal with emotions--but the adap just left that part out

THE PEDIATRIC WARD WHAT THE HELL?!

I could never imagine him of all people willfully choosing to work with children. There are too many cans of worms.

Im so glad we are talking about this. What is this butchering of Chishiya. When I choose to finish the show I’ll need to repent by rereading the manga at least 3 times.

I was also really excited to see the letter scene and the Mona Lisa scene even more. It’s such a beautiful scene.

Something personal on the Mona Lisa panels:

I never liked the Mona Lisa. Her popularity definitely added to it but the painting never spoke to me. These panels made me appreciate the painting more and what it can mean to others. I’m grateful as an artist to have gotten more hindsight into that as well.

The fact that they changed his past and put him in the paediatric ward with all the implication of "eh now I'm so apathetic because I've seen people die because of the corrupt system and I pretend I don't care" gne gne... IT DOES NOT IMPROVE THE CHARACTER. ON THE CONTRARY.

Chishiya was not in pediatrics, he was a medical student "on field" in the hospital and he's the same person who, when a dying patient gave him a letter for his wife and children, he smiled, said "Don't worry I'LL HAND IT OVER" and then proceeded to THROW IT IN A TRASH CAN JUST OUTSIDE THE ROOM SAYING THAT FOR HIM THOSE THINGS ARE JUST A PAIN IN THE ASS.

Chishiya doesn't care about understanding people's hearts, he has no interest in the concept of life. He says that himself.

I don't know what the fuck they wanted to do but twisting this big part of him made my balls drop
