Please please someone help me figure this out.

I don't read a lot of marvel comics so I don't know what's happening there.

Why there are 2 different versions of America Chavez??

There is the 2017 run "America" where she has a grandmother and she's an alien she goes to her planet.

She has this whole experience.

But then in modern comics she's a child that was done experiments on??

WHY

Worst retcon I've ever seen.

Why did this happen? What happened?

Don't get me wrong I love her sister but what happened to the planet of lesbians? Why human?

Did the whole marvel universe been retconed in an event I'm not familiar with? Please someone help out here I'm lost.

I'm just trying to understand.

I recently saw a post that said Charles doesn’t have anger issues, just trauma, and something about it rubbed me the wrong way. The point they were making was valid-ish, how anger isn’t the core part of his character and his anger comes from how messed up his childhood is, but the way they said it painted anger as this evil and vile thing, which is incredibly harmful to people who do struggle with it.

No, Charles’ trauma is not his core, but it does make up a large part of how he interacts with life (death). Anyone who has been through a lot of trauma will tell you that it colours every aspect of your life, and it takes time to work through it. Charles’ anger is not a bad thing, he should be allowed to be angry to let out everything he keeps inside, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t struggle with that anger.

He grew up in a violent household, that affects someone. He has a complicated relationship with anger, and that means he pushes it down until he snaps. That’s an anger issue. That doesn’t mean he’s a bad person, he’s probably the kindest person in the show (besides maybe Niko).

Anyway, I mean no hate to the person whose post I saw, I just felt the need to address it. Our society treats anger as if it is an evil trait (see Edwin’s reaction. That was extreme, he says. That’s how people view anger, and it’s wrong), and to see Charles struggle with his anger issues but ultimately be such a good person is very gratifying for those of us that also struggle in similar ways. Maybe someone smarter than me can put it better, but I needed to get this out.

Why the hell does Blitz have those weird spike things on his tail and back??? No one else has them. It might just be the type of Imp he is, (I think Striker called him a Bull Imp?) But Fizz is the same type and he doesn't have them???

1. My favourite character

It's Charles. Yeah it's very obvious from my profile picture, I'm a Charles fan all the way.

The moment I met him in the show/ trailer I got possessed. I knew he was going to be my favourite character and I was right. Also I'm in love(/nsrs. Well, okay, maybe a bit, but mostly not!) with Jayden Revri. God the eyes of this boy. And his face. And his everything.

Yeah Charles is very much my favourite.

After him probably Edwin Crystal and Jenny, with no particular order. I can't decide.

I'm extremely obsessed with Edwin as well, although he is vastly different from my usual type of characters, because a fencer (in my heart, George also confirmed! And I relate to him on that) + he's not afraid to be bitchy and he's so iconic and so many others stuff that surprised me about him. I love him.

Also Crystal. My love. My girl. Complex female characters my beloved.

And Jenny is an icon. What else can I say?

5. Character I relate to the most.

Well, it's Charles. Sorry the answer is clear cut lol.

His situation with his parents reminds me of my own a lot (unfortunately). I relate to him on so many deep and emotional levels. Some of the episodes hit me strong. I thought 3 was going to be the peak where we get to see his trauma although it's not a lot, and then episode 4 hit me like a train. Episode 5 (especially the end) has my heart.

I relate to Charles on so many levels.

I also relate to Crystal a lot, her journey is relatable. I feel her.

She's just as messy and complicated as anyone else in there, I get her.

7. Favourite headcanon from the fandom

Demiromantic Charles! I talked about it before and also tagged the post I saw it in that explains it really well. I love this. I wish I saw more fanfics exploring this.

Also I wish I saw more gender queer Charles Rowland.

But mostly demi Charles. I can't think of any other hc I saw I really like yet.

15. My favourite line

There are many, many, hilarious lines I dearly love. But I am going to go with an angsty pick, I think the line that broke me the most was a line Charles said in episode 1 I didn't see anyone talking about I think holds a major part of his character- "you are the smart one, and I'm the one that does shit like this." It deeply hurt me.

Let's talk about it for a moment, shall we?

Because Charles is smart. Many times he finds the solutions to their cases, Edwin often praises him for his brilliant mind and George himself said in a cameo only people he thinks truly deserves it- a compliment from Edwin is the highest compliment ever.

Charles is smart.

But he sees himself as this reckless, foolish, charicaristic. This sentence comes from so much self hatred. When things get complicated we see him turn again into the aggressive image he has of himself. He sees himself as waste. He holds Edwin at the highest place ever in his eyes "you are the smart one, you are better than this, you are better than me, don't step to my level I'm trash you are so much more I will do it for you" and it just hurts me how much he throws himself away in the process.

Seeing this line again in a rewatch and realise it definitely was a stab to the chest, now that it's known how much he hates himself.

I wish we talked about episode 1 more, it's a great episode that sets out so many important stuff for the rest of the show. We just skip over it because so much happened so quickly but there are so much stuff we need to unpack there.

Another small way to help Dead Boy Detectives that takes less than 5 minutes

If you have a Netflix account, go to this page:

When you get there you can just type your issue in as "Chat with a representative" and then press "Chat with us."

A chat box will pop up, just like if you were private messaging someone. They will ask what you need and again I just typed in "Chat with a representative."

After that, you will be connected to someone (for me it was less than 5 minutes) and asked what email your account is associated with and what you need help with. I said the following:

"Hello! I wanted to reach out and voice my displeasure and disappointment about Netflix's recent decision to cancel Dead Boy Detectives. I know that as a customer service representative, this is not your fault and you are not involved in these decisions, but I have been so heartbroken and angry that this show was canceled by Netflix with no justifiable reason. It seems to be a trend lately that Netflix does not care to complete stories that mainly focus on the experiences of queer people and people of color, which is a great injustice to the audiences that typically are looking to be represented in the media they consume and the diverse cast who put their all into creating a fantastic, nuanced show. If possible, I would greatly appreciate you passing this message along to let someone in management know my displeasure with this recent decision that could very well lead to me ending my relationship with the streamer in the future. Thank you!"

You can use what I said as a template, but obviously, adjust it to sound like you! My representative was lovely and I had this message typed beforehand, so literally it took me 5 minutes. You can even request a copy of the conversation (a transcript) to be sent to your email if you desire (I did, I have been keeping meticulous receipts of my work regarding saving this show so Netflix cannot have any plausible deniability, at least where I'm concerned).

Remember to BE KIND. Whoever you're talking to did not make this decision and they shouldn't be treated poorly because of it!

First and foremost, we need to get Dead Boy Detectives in the Netflix Top 10 again. This means running it as much as possible. Read about that below:

Second, and easiest thing: KEEP TALKING ABOUT THE SHOW AND CREATING CONTENT ABOUT THE SHOW. Analysis, fics, fanart, shitposts, gif sets, memes, tik tok videos, so on - do not stop! Reblog other people's stuff and talk about it! Give fics kudos, comment, make fic rec lists and post that WIP or sketch! The most important thing to remember is to TAG YOUR POSTS AND CREATIONS. We need to trend!!! On Tumblr make sure you continue tagging your posts as you probably already are (look at my tags on this post if you need help, and remember not to use "DBD" on here because that is another fandom! We use DBDA here). On Twitter you want to use the hashtag #ReviveDeadBoyDetectives for the rewatch and #SaveDeadBoyDetectives is a popular one, too. You can also use #DeadBoyDetectives. Hell, I usually use all three if I can! Hashtag every post you make about Dead Boys, no matter how annoying or "cringe" you may feel. Flood the fucking tag and do not stop.

Third, everyone needs to sign and keep circulating the petition. We've surpassed 5,000 signatures in a day which is fantastic, but we need more. Get everyone you know to sign it; tell them it takes no more than 15 seconds. Be annoying until they do it just to shut you up.

Renew Dead Boy Detectives on Netflix

Fourth, request "Dead Boy Detectives Season 2" through Netflix's support website. It's a small thing but if we all do this a couple times a day it will get their attention. They really do vet these suggestions, and an influx of requests for a canceled show will raise eyebrows.

Lastly, if you decide to write Netflix (via email or a letter - their office address has been floating around) please remember to stay concise and professional. Don't curse at them, don't call names. State that you are disappointed with the cancellation of the show, maybe add an anecdote about what it meant to you, and I would even recommend attaching some articles that emphasize people's displeasure with the platform abandoning shows on a whim and Netflix's flippant attitude toward queer shows in particular. Dead Boy Detective Agency on Twitter has retweeted every article on this topic so far, you can find their page here.

I know this feels like a lot: know your limits and take care of yourself. Whether you do every single one of these things or just a few of these things, every llittle bit helps!

Even in the worst case scenario where nothing changes, this gesture will mean so much to everyone who made this show. We owe it to the writers, cast, crew, and each other to TRY. We can all agree that this show deserves at least another season and if Netflix isn't going to do it, they need to be open to selling it to someone who will. We cannot keep allowing them to axe these queer and diverse shows with little regard for their customers and their employees, but also because it sets a harmful standard in the industry that is destroying television.
