Damn, here I thought that was just me. Always thought I had a great childhood, but then when I moved away and that began happening.

The two reactions I remember most were, when i shared a childhood storyi thought was normal and funny only for my one coworker to look at me dead in the eye and say, "Why are you always so depressing"

Or when we're all sitting outside on a hot day after the fire alarm went off in our office, and i started popping tar bubles. I looked to my supervisor and said if he remembered doing this as a kid and he looked at me kinda sad shook his head and said "no, no. I think that just might have been u" in the most sympathetic way.

Can you imagine having trouble sleeping, insomnia, nightmares, etc., and Magnus coming to your bedroom because he senses your distress? Then he would tell you to just... relax and close your eyes, and he would use his powers to put you into a deep sleep, personally shaping your dreams into something nice and comforting. He would leave after he's sure you're taken care of, and in the morning, you'll wake up refreshed and loved.

Like, no, I got no beef if you enjoy it. Just not my cup a tea, and I know cus I tried.

I first watched it on a 14 hr plane ride from Japan to the US to visit family. But after the flight I thought, "We'll no one gets a good experience with a movie on a plane. Duh!" So I rented the dvd and watched it 2 more times once during the day the second at night(to test the different vibes) and nope!

Like objectively, it's a good movie, script is tight, acting phenomenal, and the kills genuinely good. I watched a ton of video essays on YT and i understood their points, but like... meh.

I just don't vibe with it. And I think that really fuckin humbled me. Before, if I disliked something, I always thought it was because there was something wrong with the story/movie itself.

But this experience taught me that you truly can not jive with something, and neither you nor the story are wrong for that.

So now if I ask why someone doesn't like something and they say "It just isn't my cup of tea" I finally get it.

gone girl is less a "good for her" movie to me and more of a "deviously evil but charismatic murderer gets at a boring and vaguely unlikable guy" much in the same way no country for old men is

He was also constantly getting himself in trouble. He threw over the tables of the taxcollecters. He mocked monarchs and said fuck capitalism, everybody gets to eat. He believed in the fundamental good of humanity but was also a chaos gremlin.

He is the half son of one of the biggest narcissistic bipolar gods. And as much as he uses it to his advantage,(like he'd use the "do u know who my father is" for threat and excuse) he also goes around trying to clear up some of his dad's messes. Trying to spread peace and love whether people wanted it or not.
