Spanish Fic Recommendation!

this morning I woke up and felt possessed by the marineford Doffy / Moria interaction panel. I think that it might have been part of a dream because I vividly remember the glasses being pushed down slightly to show the pose I tried to put down on the whiteboard.

either way I was late to my internship because of this possession and got scolded for it. every day I become more of a criminal for doflamingo!

Happy birthday, Killer! Here's a playlist for his birthday. Enjoy!

Now youtube is a bit of a total bitch nuisance when it comes to uploading playlists, so I keep having to delete more and more songs out of it to make internationally accessible.

Which is why I've put the mp4 and mp3 versions of these playlist up on Google Drive! Feel free to download them and watch them from there. The mp4s are all in 480p with a low bitrate to make sure none of them exceed 1GB (having been up to 8GB of size before I reduced them!) but the mp3s are of course way smaller as well.

Without further ado, let's get into why I chose the songs for Killer!

1- Nobody's Soldier - Hozier

Killer's epiphet is "massacre soldier". I don't know if that's an epiphet he chose himself or if it was given to him, but in my mind it's like with Zoro's "pirate hunter" epiphet - it was given for some particular reason in the past, but doesn't necessarily fit anymore now.

I found this song while watching an absolutely incredible Ace AMV and really like it for Killer.

"Running with bulls, working my miracles" - Kidd as a bull, Killer keeping him back from any reckless decisions

"Choose between being a butcher or a pauper Honey, I'm taking no orders, I'm gonna be nobody's soldier" - The Kidd pirates don't take orders from anybody and neither does Killer just blindlessly follow Kidd's orders

"Sick to my skin, watching the news again Whatever you choose, you lose out in the long run" - Parallels with Killer being offered the smile fruit by Orochi to save Kidd

2 - Naked - Avril Lavigne

This one's for Killer's relation with Kidd, for whenever Kidd gets to know what Killer looks like under the mask and Killer starts to feel comfortable with that. Now that I think about it, it might as well apply to the entire crew.

I think there's a lot of vulnerability in Killer's insecurity about his face and laugh and this song captures that very insecurity perfectly.

3 - Numb the Pain - Clarx, Catas, Le Malls

This song is one I've chosen for Kidd as well. I think it fits the tough survival game that is the Grand Line well. Being a pirate ain't all that easy, especially with being up against some absolute freaks of nature. The Kidd pirates are all about picking themselves back up after having been beaten down and Killer is no exception to this.

"Now It's much harder to laugh Hard to get up and then work on my craft Feel like all of you hate me Everything's been so hard with all the situations lately Well maybe I'm done, maybe I've lost Still putting up a fight because [...]"

4 - Iris - Goo Goo Dolls

This one's another one of the vulnerable songs. Not wanting to be seen by the world may be a little very on the nose, but it still fits, dammit!

"And I don't want the world to see me 'Cause I don't think that they'd understand When everything's made to be broken I just want you to know who I am"

5 - I found - Amber Run

Another vulnerable addition! This one sounds romantic on the surface, but I believe that it is a lot more extensive than that.

You could interpret it as his romantic love towards Victoria, the song's sad tone fitting her demise, or you could interpret it as the familial love of having a found family amongst the Kidd pirates, or single it down to the platonic love he shares with Kidd as the best of best friends. In which case the sad tones may relate to losing said found family / best friend.

"And I've moved further than I thought I could But I missed you more than I thought I would" - this passage could relate to Victoria!

"And I found love where it wasn't supposed to be Right in front of me Talk some sense to me"

6- Hero - Skillet

This song sounds pretty punk-ish to me. (Not that I know literally a single thing about punk music!) It's more on the rock side of things and fits fighting vibes well. I'm not sure who he'd be the hero for in this case, but there's definitely themes of not giving up and fighting to the end in the lyrics so I'll call it a good fit, like it or not!

7 - I deserve to bleed - Sushi Soucy

This one is a little painful. It's a lot about self-hatred and being so desperately unhappy with your own looks that you'd want to harm yourself, something that I think for Killer would be amped up to the extreme by the effects of the smile fruit.

Poor man! Please let them have nice things at some point again, Oda-sensei.

8 - I'm gonna win - Rob Cantor

Yet another Grand Line survival song! Am I choosing all of these for Killer because I feel like I don't really know his personality yet? Perhaps. Very likely. I need to do some in-depth research for this man.

I guess it's also a good matchup song for any of his fights, namely the one with Hawkins.

9 - In the End - Linkin Park

Another song for fighting! Looking at recent developments (not saying anything because the spoilers in here are for Wano) it rings even more true.

10 - Wonderful World - Chase Holfelder

This one's a complete turnaround on the initial theme of the song - it's way more disheartened and far more angry! Far more fitting of a battle-hardened "soldier" than anything joyful.

11 - Misery Business - Paramore

Paramore has the perfect type of vibe for the Kidd Pirates and you cannot change my mind.

Also it makes me very happy to have "matching" songs between artists for Kid and Killer. I originally had "Ain't it fun" from Paramore on the playlist too but don't deem that as fitting enough (and it doesn't match the other songs well enough in my opinion!)

Can we talk about how absolutely sick this gif is? Whoever animated this, I love you from the bottom of my heart.

12 - Behind Blue Eyes - The Who

Themes of insecurity, vengeance and sadness + blue eyes + saw a Killer artist make an artwork with this song = part of the Killer playlist!

13 - The Pretender - Foo Fighters

It's angry, it's rock and it's either about Killer fighting somebody he considers a pretender or fighting himself, considering himself a pretender, being hidden away under the guise of his mask!

Or something something Kamazo (I haven't watched Wano yet I cannot possibly talk about this without making a fool of myself)

14 - Breaking my Bones - Friday Pilots Club

"For all of the stars to come down" - I like to think of this as a metaphor for bringing down all of the established order, making Kidd the new king of the pirates.

I like the vibes of this song for him and once again it's about fighting, picking yourself up and giving it your all! ... I feel very unimaginative having chosen so many of the same type for him. Sorry, Killer fans!!

15 - Body Terror Song - AJJ

I did really go all out with the "body shame" for this Killer playlist, this last addition not being an exception to the rule. I guess in a way a lot of these vulnerable / insecure songs are ones that I could see Killer listening to himself rather than just matching his vibes as I was able to do a lot better within my Kidd playlist.

16- Tracks of my tears - Flying Pickets

I really like this song for Killer for his post-smile fruit state of being.

"Although I might be laughing loud and hearty Deep inside I'm blue So take a good look at my face You'll see my smile looks out of place

If you look closer, it's easy to trace The tracks of my tears

I need you, need you

Outside I'm masquerading Inside my hope is fading Just a clown oh yeah Since you put me down My smile is my make up"

It is a love song technically, but you can definitely read the "I need you" as him needing his crew, their unconditional support to be able to live with himself.

I do love the idea of the smile being makeup as well, or just generally having makeup addressed feels pretty fitting for Killer.

I wish I could give you better explanations on a lot of these, but a lot of them are more chosen by gut feeling rather than "I actually know and understand this character and will make fitting choices".

I don't know if there IS a lot of Killer lore I just haven't seen in the anime yet or if I'm just as oblivious as the rest of you, but heyho.

Am I taking the concept of Dreaming of Doflamingo too far by making it an entire "I dream of Jeannie" crossover? Maybe.

Do I love that show? To bits.

I was tempted to try and incorporate the official female Doflamingo design a bit better into this but... Yeah. No. Didn't work out the way I planned, haha.

One of my absolute personal favourites when it comes to drawing Doflamingo, they're incredibly talented and have a very unique style that really adds realism to their drawings! I always geek out just a little a lot when I see them post, and I find myself continously returning to their drawings over and over just to marvel at them. They're also an incredibly fun and kind person and they're my go-to source for finding new Doffy pictures. Rock on!!

I tried to pay homage to their style with my drawing, but failed. I hope to fix this within the digital rendition in the future!

Oh god I'm so glad I digitalized this! It actually looks like Doflamingo in the digital rendition, even if he's still got a few issues like having a rather filled out face with intense hollow cheekbones and a mouth that's just... not that. It does not look like a mouth.

No. 5: @CoffeeTimeWorks !

Their kindness just keeps on making me come back to them over and over. They're incredible supportive and they've made me care for Penguin and appreciate him so much more! Their sketches of the silly flightless bird are incredibly clean (how do you do it?!) and a total pleasure to look at.

No. 6: @wani13go !

They make such high quality Crocodile and Doflamingo drawings, and I'll forever be in awe of the speed at which they work. Wow! They're also very kind, the google translator lets us communicate even through the language barriers! :D

I failed the anatomy on this drawing quite a bit, as it was supposed to be a drunk Doffy leaning on Wani. All good things take practise!

No. 7: @Putako_pigpet !

Another japanese artist, and an incredibly kind one yet again! As they're learning English while I'm learning Japanese we're trying our best to make sure that we understand one another, haha.

They make really cute drawings of "Kikokutan", the personification of Law's sword!

No. 8: @RottenBuggy !

This artist makes incredibly clean drawings of AU versions of Shanks and Buggy, and they've started drawing THE most adorable pet Buggy you've ever seen. And don't even get me started on how cool their cosplays look! They're also very kind and forthcoming, I'm glad I found them!! :D

No. 9: @shiibeex

Another one of those godly Doflamingo artists! They absolutely manage to capture the freaky tall vibes of Doflamingo, and they absolutely excel at drawing stunningly gorgeous chiselled bodies. The colours and shading they use are nothing short of breathtaking!

They're also very kind and uplifting! I'm glad I found them.

They draw quite the variety of characters and their shading / colouring skills are on a whole other level! They're also really kind! ^^

No. 11: @YKM_______

Now I'm not exaggerating (much) when I say that they are my personal messias. Their art really hits the spot for me, the colours they use are super vibrant and the characters look about ready to hop out of the screen.

They draw a lot of KidxLaw and Onigiri, and I love them all the more for it. They've drawn them in so many different situations, and I just about drop everything when I see them post. They're also very very kind! I've interacted with them quite a few times, and they're super supportive and happy to share the KidLaw love :D

No. 12: @creepyslimy

Another one of the Doflamingo greats. They have this uncanny talent to draw Doflamingo in such an attractive way that you start to question everything you thought you knew about yourself. They're just that good!

They're very very kind and friendly, and I'm very glad I've found them online. Their anatomy is on point and you can practically feel the Doffy love radiating from your screen.

No. 14: @koyatawanko

Another japanese artist. They make really, and I mean REALLY cute drawings of a small kitty version of Law, as well as ocassionally other chibis to e.g. Luffy and Kidd as well. It's so much fun watching their characters' journeys, and they're also very kind!

No. 15: @saracrossing02!!

They're an incredibly talented pixel-animation artist, and thankfully they make a lot of Doffy animations, because those look absolutely stunning! Their takes on all of the other One Piece characters are worth checking out as well, and they make super cute DoffyKitty animations! They've been nothing but kind in my contact with them and I really appreciate all of the positivity going around ^-^

They make really fun drawings of a variety of characters and they have some really "stop-and-stare" kind of pieces that are absolutely gorgeous to look at! I love the type of colours they use, they're very pleasant to look at.

Toy Corazon design

For my Corazon Lives AU where Doffy makes Sugar save his life by turning him into a toy.

Law forgets all about Corazon, Doflamingo does too but Sugar makes sure to remind him.

Corazon then has to work in the palace under Doflamingo's supervision.

Will expand on the idea in the future, once I'm ready for that much angst in my life.
