Finding new blogs to follow - especially blogs with your favourite types of content - can be tricky.
But that’s why I’ve set up the Whump Community Directory, a new blog and database made so that bloggers in the community can let others know about their content, and so that you can search for exactly the types of whump you want more of!
VIEW THE DIRECTORY NOW!
The Directory listings are entirely user-generated, so you’ll need to add your blog details yourself if you would like it to appear, using this handy form. You can add as many or as few details as you’d like!
If you’d like to edit or remove your listing from the database, just fill in the form here.
Reblogs of this post are appreciated to spread the word!

Very Silly Concept: a show called "Accessibility Nightmares" but it's structured exactly like Kitchen Nightmares. An accessibility specialist goes to different establishments and helps them make their businesses more accessible.
The accessibility specialist asks why the door at the top of the small set of stairs has a wheelchair symbol on it. The owner replies that's the accessible bathroom. The camera zooms in on the specialist as they process this information.
A customer with a service dog comes in to a restaurant. The hostess tells them they don't allow dogs. The accessibly specialist looks over at the hostess like
And there are web accessibility episodes too. The accessibility specialist stares at the white text on the light pink background of the home page like
The specialist asks why not a single product picture has alt text, and the business owner says "Well I mean, it's makeup, why would a blind person be shopping for makeup?" The specialist just
The specialist asks the web designer how a screen reader user is supposed to complete the captcha portion of the password reset process when there is no audio alternative. The designer admits they don't know.

Sam's Wife here, composing this post at her instruction!
We're putting together an Amazon wishlist (link below) for helpful items to make hospital life easier for her- pretty much all our spare money, plus some of our not-actually-spare money, is going towards getting me to and from the hospital every day (current hospital covid policy re: visitors forces me to leave between 6pm and 9am, so I can't do what I've done for all her previous admissions and sleep in her room for three nights, go home for one night to tend to the cats and my cranky joints, then repeat until she's home) because parking that is acceptable for my own disability needs is $20/day, and the 3-4 hour round trip between our rural RV site and the hospital consumes over a 3rd of a tank of gas. So getting some assistance with items that will solve some issues she's encountered and/or make her life easier would be an enormous help.
Current list is short, but we're still earlier in her recovery process, so we'll add things as we discover new needs. She'll be going to the inpatient rehab unit here at her hospital (hopefully fairly soon), so we're holding off on trying to think ahead too much bc the rehab folks will be a valuable resource regarding items that will help her take care of herself most effectively.
Ah yes, all of the autism topics: Stimming, shutdown, Broly, and eye contact.
people have these “my dog is a democrat” stickers and I like to imagine them with increasingly unlikely animals professing more niche political opinions:
my parrot is a democratic socialist
my arctic fox is an anarchopastoralist
my catfish believes in the divine right of kings

Ok so I've found a way to describe what Neurodivergent Can't Do Task Mode™ feels like to neurotypicals
So you know how you can't make yourself put your hand down on a hot stovetop? There's a part of your brain that stops you from doing that? That's what Neurodivergent Can't Do Task Mode™ feels like
Even if we want to do it, there's a barrier stopping us from doing it, and it's really hard to override
And why does our brain see the task as a hot stovetop? Because when neurotypicals finish a task, they get serotonin, but we don't get that satisfaction after completing a task. A neurotypical wouldn't get serotonin from putting their hand on a hot stovetop, it would just hurt. When we can't do a task, it's because our brain knows that the task will hurt (metaphorically) and wants to avoid that.
It's not that we're choosing not to do the task, it's that our brain is physically preventing us from doing it.
Neurotypicals can and should reblog but please don't add anything
(Sorry/not sorry about the random bolding, it makes it easier for us to read)

ADHD/Aspie female in a romantic but non-sexual relationship with another aspie woman
I love it when people try to claim representation in fiction is being taken “too far” to the point where it’s no believable. They’re like:Â
“What’s next, a mixed-race immigrant on the autism spectrum?” Hi, my name is Rachel, also known as Rachna, and I’m a mixed-race immigrant on the autism spectrum.Â
“What’s next, a transgender Latino man with chronic pain?” What, you mean my former colleague, Marco?Â
“What’s next, a Black Jewish lesbian?” Bitch, I know I three Black Jewish lesbians, WHAT’S YOUR FUCKING POINT?
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: navigating the US healthcare system is a Kafkaesque executive dysfunction nightmare: -2019 GYN appointment: given a referral for an ultrasound and mammogram. This was before I was taking medication for my ADHD, and I didn’t even know who to call to make an appointment, so my referral paper sat on my table until the referral literally expired. *insert feelings of shame*
-Put off scheduling my 2020 annual GYN appointment for months, because of the pandemic.
-Executive functioning struggles have prevented me from scheduling my appointment until recently, because my medication dosage needed to be increased, and I’ve been really busy.
-Given a referral for that same ultrasound, but at least I was provided additional information about who to call this time.
-Call to schedule radiology appointment as soon as I got home from appointment (higher medication dosage helps immensely with executive functioning).
-Sat on hold for 20 minutes.
-Receptionist, whose phone is crackling and I can only hear every other word she’s saying, tells me, verbatim, “your mammogram referral can’t be written this way. It has to be written differently.”
-Me: “What do you mean differently? How should it be written differently?”
-Receptionist: “It can’t be written this way. Your doctor will know how to write it.”
?????
-Call GYN back and tell them this, with what little information I have, and they tell me that they will have the doctor change it.
-And now…what? I wait? I don’t know how long until they will change it in the system so that I can call the radiologist back. My brain operates like: “now or never, and needs obvious but novel/unexpected visual cues to remember,” so there is a very short window of opportunity here to actually do this.
And people wonder why folks with ADHD struggle to take care of their health. It’s such a nightmare, every time, and any failure to navigate the system makes you feel incompetent and ashamed.
