unless they specifically asked, you don’t get to tell a fanfic writer you think they mischaracterized the character by the way. because the second someone writes a fanfic about a character, that character becomes the writer’s own version of the character. canon is only a suggestion, but whether or not an author will follow it / how much of canon an author will take is entirely up to them. you don’t get to stick your nose in their world and tell them “hey this is not to my liking therefore I think you’re doing it wrong” when you can simply leave quietly and move on to something else you may enjoy
I get people asking me how I recovered from everything my parents put me through.
And there are a lot of answers but there’s one I haven’t told anyone yet.
It’s the fact that I genuinely gaslit my way through.
Internally I became the most egotistical mother fucker, I would flex in the mirror for ten minutes after spending all day killing myself in the gym, I’d compliment myself all the time, I was like “those guys don’t like me? Who gives a shit? Not me, I’m awesome”
And it worked, still does.
I just stopped caring about the things that upset me, and now I’m a bit better.
imagine being éowyn in the lord of the rings trilogy. your uncle the king is being mind controlled by an evil wizard until said evil wizard's cooler version shows up and frees him. he is accompanied by an elf, a dwarf, and the hottest guy you've ever met. the hot guy also happens to be 87 years old and maybe still not over his immortal elf girlfriend but he respects and listens to you so you're shooting your shot. your geriatric hotguy situationship turns you down the night before the biggest battle ever then goes ghost hunting in the mountains. you decide to go to battle because you'll either help save your people or die in a really cool and honorable way. you then kill middle earth satan's number one henchman with the power of loophole and being a woman (you are also helped in doing this by a 4 foot tall stoner). then you get to marry faramir. 10/10 no notes my girl went through it all
Writing the Bilbo and Gollum meet was cool because I got to write Bilbo as the Hobbit I headcanon with the tail etc
But I also wrote Gollum as the Hobbit Child he never grew up from after getting the ring.
Writing the parallel with Bilbo (in this particular story) going feral because of reasons I won’t spoil, and Gollum who is literally already feral and more creature then hobbit at this point, was amazing, fighting like absolute animals.
Frodo listening to Aragorn’s stories about Númenor with quiet fascination, his love for lore and history shining through.
Frodo being the only one patient enough to sit through Gandalf’s long explanations, genuinely enjoying the depth of knowledge.
Frodo sharing a quiet understanding with Boromir, both of them burdened by duty.
Frodo smiling whenever Legolas describes the beauty of the Elven realms, though a flicker of longing crosses his face.
Frodo comforting Merry and Pippin after hard times, reminding them they’re stronger than they realize, and thankful they came along, even if it was just an accident at first.
Frodo instinctively reaching for Sam in moments of doubt, drawing strength from his presence even without words.
Frodo quietly writing in his journal at night, capturing the journey not just for history, but to remind himself that he is still himself.
Frodo trying to never let the Ring take away his kindness, even when it weighs heavier than anything he’s ever known.
Frodo proving, time and time again, that he is more than just the Ring-bearer—he is a friend, a scholar, and a heart too big for the burden he carries.
This is incredible, reblogged for my girlfriend later
